Solihull and HS2

Transcript

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands:

“It’s brilliant to be here (Interchange Station site) in Solihull today to see this bridge move into place because what this says to everyone is HS2 is for real and most importantly it’s creating jobs right here in Solihull and the rest of the West Midlands, right now.”

Maria Machancoses, Director of Midlands Connect:

“Right from the outset, the Midlands have understood the importance of HS2 arriving here to Soiliull, placing it at the heart of the nation. At the heart of the national and the regional network and we always have made the point of the importance of integrating HS2 locally and regionally and from a Midlands Connect perspective, this what we’re seeing today is exactly that.”

Saqib Bhatti, MP for Meriden:

“HS2 will bring many economic benefits to the Borough of Solihull including job creation, but it also means environmentally benefits due to releasing capacity on our road networks and also on our freight networks.”

Councillor Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Council:

“For Solihull and HS2 has some tremendous gains and tremendous benefits. From an environmental point of view there’s a great deal of work being done, but also from the business creation where we are now going to be the site of an economic zone next to the airport next the NEC and the International Station.”

Paul Faulkner, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce:

“For Solihull the benefits are even greater really than anywhere else. If you think that the Interchange Station is going to be the first stop on the line as you come out of London, the amount of construction that is taking place now and with the Solihull being right at the centre of that is brilliant for creating jobs, new opportunities for people and I think it’s a very, very exciting time.”

Nick Brown, Chairman of Urban Growth Company:

“We’re one of the best connected regions in the UK. The new HS2 Interchange Station just across there will be at the centre of this new place, which will see offices, manufacturing centres, a healthcare innovation campus, as well as many homes to enable further growth into the 21st century.”
