These will become ‘integrated high speed stations’

where passengers can catch HS2 trains and access the high speed network to the south.

HS2 services will reduce the journey time between Scotland’s central belt and London to just over 3 and a half hours. Scotland will be part of the HS2 network from day one, with HS2 trains serving Glasgow on the West Coast Main Line.

HS2 will benefit the Scottish economy by over £5bn – extending the reach of businesses and increasing productivity. As travellers move from air to rail, it could also deliver environmental benefits by reducing carbon emissions.

The UK and Scottish Government’s share the ultimate ambition of three hour rail journey’s between London and Scotland’s Central Belt.

The Department for Transport, Transport Scotland are now working with Network Rail to identify options (whether on the east or the west) with strong business cases that can make journey’s quicker, add extra capacity and improve the resilience and reliability of services between England and Scotland.
