M42 full weekend closures between J5a to 9 northbound and J7 to 6 southbound

What we are doing

Location
M42 between junctions 5a to 9 northbound and 7 to 6 southbound
(including M6 J4a southbound link to M42 in both directions).
M6 northbound J3a link to M6 Toll T1 and M6 Toll southbound at T2.

Duration
From 9pm on Friday 24 July until 5am Monday 27 July 2026.

M6 Toll southbound at T2 from 10pm Friday 24 July until 12pm (midday) Saturday 25 July 2026.

What we are doing
Traffic management will be in place to enable our workforce to safely continue installing beams for the M42 Motorway Box in Solihull and to progress deck installation works on the Water Orton Viaducts across the motorway in North Warwickshire.

What to expect
A fully signed diversion route will be in place throughout the full weekend closures. Low level noise from our works site. These works are subject to consent.

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
