Viaducts and bridges
HS2’s infrastructure is taking shape all along the 140-mile route.
We’re building hundreds of bridging structures – including over 50 major viaducts which will stretch for a combined total of 9 miles (15km) across valleys, rivers, roads and flood plains.
These structures will help us seamlessly integrate the new railway with other transport routes, allowing HS2 trains to travel over or under existing railway lines, roads, and motorways, in both rural and urban locations.
In addition to the bridges and viaducts that will carry the new high speed railway, many of our bridges will carry existing roads, bridleways and footpaths to make sure that communities stay connected.
Over 50 viaducts
We're building more than 50 major viaducts, that will carry HS2 trains across valleys, rivers, roads and flood plains.
