Euston tunnel

The Euston tunnel will carry high-speed trains between London Euston station and Old Oak Common station. The 4.5-mile (7.2km) twin-bore tunnel will reach depths of up to 50 metres below ground. It will be excavated using two tunnel boring machines (TBMs), Karen and Madeleine, which will be launched from the eastern section of Old Oak Common station.

Euston tunnel settlement deeds

Settlement is the technical term for the way the ground moves around a hole after it has been dug out. A settlement deed is a formal legal agreement between a property owner and HS2 Ltd which records the protection already to a property by the High Speed Rail Act of 2017.

Old Oak Common tunnel

Skanska Costain STRABAG (SCS) Railways are the main works civils contractor working on behalf of HS2 Ltd. SCS are responsible for the design and construction of bridges, embankments, and tunnels for the Greater London section of the new railway.

SCS completed excavating the 8.4 mile long twin-bore Northolt Tunnel between West Ruislip and North Acton in summer 2025. We expect to start building the 4.5 mile twin-bore Euston Tunnel in early 2026 from the eastern section of the Old Oak Common Station Box. It will take about 18 months for the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to reach the southern terminus in Euston.

Victoria Road Crossover Box

We’ve proposed designs for the Victoria Road Crossover Box headhouse and plant room.

In July 2025, we produced design proposals for the auto-transformer station, boundary wall, access road and security lighting. We shared them with members of the public ahead of planning submission to the local planning authority.
