24-hour cross passage construction works in North Acton

What we are doing

From 16 September to 16 October 2024, we will be constructing a cross passage near Western Avenue and Mansfield Road.

We will work 24 hours, seven days a week. Within this time there will be periods of noisy works. To avoid overnight disturbance, we have agreed with the local authority to keep noisy activities to between 7am and 10pm Monday to Sunday and carry out quieter works at night.

Cross passages between the tunnels allow HS2 passengers to get to a place of safety in an emergency and are approximately 500 metres apart along the route. This cross passage is approximately 20 metres deep and 30 metres away from the closest property.

Cross passage construction involves breaking into the side of the completed tunnel. This might generate some noise and vibration which may be heard/felt as groundborne noise in nearby buildings when transmitted through the ground to the surface.
