What we are doing
What works are we doing on Adelaide Road? Our contractor Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture (SCSJV) will carry out utility works to protect the main sewer in Adelaide Road. The works will involve the installation of a sewer liner to strengthen the existing sewer pipe. Once the works are complete, the sewer pipe will be protected while we build the HS2 tunnels in the London Borough of Camden.
How will we carry out these works? We will install a temporary access point to the sewer on Eton Road and will construct a permanent manhole on Adelaide Road. We will do this by digging into the ground to create a trench which will be at the depth of the main sewer pipe underneath Adelaide Road. Once complete, we will carry out the installation of a liner inside the sewer.
What might you see? During the sewer lining works, you will see an increase in construction vehicles on Adelaide Road and Eton Road, including a vacuum excavator, 360 degree excavator and material loading lorries. All plant will be located within the temporary traffic management and will use the agreed lorry routes confirmed by Camden Council. What might you hear? You may hear breaking concrete and tarmac, and a vacuum excavator. Noise reducing barriers will be in place where possible.
How might these works affect you? We will have two traffic management phases in place during these works. Please see below: Phase one: from 25 July until 19 August 2022 a road closure will be in place on the junction of Eton Road with Adelaide Road. Eton Road may also be closed on 20 August. Phase two: from 22 to 26 August 2022 a road closure will be in place on Eton Road.
How can you travel through the area?
The following temporary changes will be in place during the temporary road closure.
Travelling by bus
Eton Road (Stop R), Chalk Farm (Stop CB) and Chalk Farm (Stop CA) will be closed for the duration of our works. The nearest bus stops for bus routes 31, N28 and N31 are Finchley Road South Hampstead (Stop K) and The Roundhouse (Stop CF).
Travelling by car
To help us maintain traffic flow on the road network, we have agreed a diversion route with Camden Council and Transport for London.
Vehicles travelling towards Adelaide Road from Swiss Cottage will be diverted north on Fitzjohn’s Avenue and Heath Street (B511) and then south on Haverstock Hill (A502) towards Chalk Farm.
