Update: Camden Winding Vaults protection works

What we are doing

We are carrying out works to protect the Grade II* Listed Camden Winding Engine Vaults. These works will now continue, when necessary, until 31 January 2026. This is because we need to carry out additional surveys to ensure the vaults are protected during our works.

We are continuing to clear the vaults of mud and flood water while installing scaffolding. We are removing the mud and water from the vaults with suction equipment and lifting the debris with a lorry mounted crane. The machinery is located at the vaults access near Gilbeys Yard.

This work may be noisy. We will use noise reducing blankets where possible.

Each Saturday night between 11pm and 5am, when trains are not using the tracks, we will have two lorry movements delivering materials into the shaft entrance. The lorries will travel on the Network Rail access road from the vaults access near Gilbeys Yard, exiting at Juniper Crescent.

We will also be carrying out ground surveys, when required, on the railway tracks during this time. This work will not be noisy. You may notice staff on Juniper Crescent entering the Network Rail site.

Adelaide Road vent shaft site facilities
Staff working at the Camden Winding Engine Vaults site are using the welfare facilities at the Adelaide Road Ventilation Shaft site during core hours. Staff are transported between the two sites by minibus.

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
