What we are doing
The new railway is being constructed to the northeast of Hampton-in-Arden, crossing Meriden Road and the River Blythe on a viaduct, in a cutting under Diddington Lane and under a bridge below the A45 Coventry Road.
To facilitate this construction activity, we are extending our haul road. Haul roads are temporary roads provided within a working area to allow for the movement of construction materials, construction machinery and/or construction staff around work sites.
Haul roads are Balfour Beatty Vinci’s preferred logistical transport link as they reduce the number of vehicles interfering with the existing road network and provide the most effective, efficient and safe possible control over essential operational works.
To enable the haul roads to be connected, we will need to create two controlled crossings on Diddington Lane. The majority of this work was undertaken in May 2024 under a full road closure. To complete this work we will remove vegetation around the crossings, install traffic signals and remove some topsoil to lay the stone road either side of the crossing.
To do this safely we will close the Diddington Lane from Monday 2 September to Friday 6 September between 9.30am to 3.30pm only. Access to Diddington Farm and Hampton hill hounds will be maintained. Once operational, these signalised plant crossings will be in place until summer 2026.
