What we are doing

Safe stop down to SCS works from 10 October

Safety is our number one priority at HS2. Following an incident that occurred at the Green Park Way site in Ealing, works are being safely halted across the London Tunnels section of the route, including sites in Hillingdon. While no workers were physically harmed, our contractor, Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture, is undertaking a comprehensive review of safety procedures and leadership on their sites before a safe restart can take place.

Works will be brought to a safe stop and will remain on hold until we’re satisfied that all appropriate measures are in place to protect the workforce. We anticipate the review may take a number of weeks depending on the area and the type of work involved.

We will provide details on when the safe stop will be in place over the course of the next week.

Tunnel construction from West Ruislip to Greenford completed in March and we are carrying out 24/7 works to remove tunnelling support structures inside and outside the tunnels. Please follow this link to the programme of the demobilisation works at West Ruislip published in May 2025.

Update: West Ruislip Portal demobilisation works – July 2025

We would like to update you on the works programme as the demobilisation progresses throughout the next few months until January 2026.

The removal of conveyor structures for the downline tunnel were completed and works are now underway to remove tunnelling support structures inside and outside the tunnels for the upline tunnel.

The demobilisation and removal works will be carried out for the following:

  • The conveyor structure
  • The launch chamber entrance
  • Grout plant removal
  • Cooling plant and workshop removal
  • Tunnelling support structures removal

We will only carry out activities agreed with the London Borough of Hillingdon and will adhere to the agreed working hours, noise and vibration limits. We continue to monitor noise, dust and vibration throughout our works to ensure we have measures in place to minimise disruption.
