What we are doing
Throughout 2022, our teams will be moving into our main construction phases for the various bridges and two viaducts that will be built in the areas of Great Missenden and Wendover.
In preparation for the main construction phase for the Wendover Dean Viaduct, we will soon begin receiving deliveries of steel beams. Some of these beams will be 30m in length (similar in length to three buses) and therefore these deliveries will be classed as abnormal loads.
For the deliveries of the steel beams, it has been decided that the safest option is for delivery vehicles to exit the M40 at Junction 1. This is a slight deviation from our current HGV routes from Junction 2 of the M40. The reason for the deviation is so that the longer vehicles can manoeuvre around the roundabout at the junction of the A355 and A413 without the need for traffic management.
For the safety of road users and our staff, these abnormal loads will require temporary traffic management at three other locations to complete their journey to our sites. This traffic management will only be operational for a short period of time while the vehicles pass through.
The first trial run for the beams of the Wendover Dean Viaduct will take place off peak in the near future.
