HS2 Works Notification: Road and footpath closure, Helmdon Road, Greatworth

What we are doing

During our main construction works, we will be using internal haul and access roads for our construction traffic, reducing our impact on the local highways.

To achieve this, a section of Helmdon Road between Greatworth and Welsh Road, will be fully closed, 24 hours a day, for approximately 2 weeks beginning in early May.

During this road closure, we will be building highway crossing areas. A strengthened road surface will be created using concrete to ensure that we protect the road and any utilities underneath it, in the area where our site access road crosses the highway. Manually operated traffic lights will be installed to ensure a safe, controlled crossing from our works sites across the highway. The traffic lights will only be active during operating hours and remain on green for highway users until our construction traffic is ready to cross the highway.

As the building of this crossing will require large plant and machinery, and time for concrete to set, we are required to fully close these sections of road, 24 hours per day.

A section of Helmdon Road will be closed from 8.00am Monday 9 May to 11.59pm Sunday 29 May, there will be no access to emergency services.

A Public Right of Way near to Helmdon Road, footpath AN13, will be closed for approximately 3 years from Monday 9 May 2022. This is for the safety of pedestrians as the path crosses our construction area where earthworks are due to commence. Signage on the footpath will indicate the closure and a recommended diversion route along footpath AN14.
