What we are doing

We are building a temporary bridge across the Oxford Canal, near Wormleighton, to assist in our construction activities in the local area.

The bridge will allow our construction traffic to travel along our site access and haul road, from Southam to Wormleighton, reducing our traffic on the local highways.

The towpath along the canal is a Public Right of Way (PRoW) known as SM200 and runs through the construction area where we are forming the temporary bridge. The bridge installation will involve the use of heavy lifting equipment and so for the safety of users, the towpath will be temporarily closed while we construct the bridge, for a period of approximately one week in November.

The delivery of the bridge sections will also involve some ‘abnormal loads’ delivered using heavy goods vehicles which may require an escort. We do not anticipate these deliveries will create any significant traffic impacts and we are planning for the delivery to be received at our Southam Compound. To keep the canal closure period to a minimum, some work beyond our core hours and weekend work may be required during the period of installation.

The Oxford Canal along with adjacent towpath, near Wormleighton, will be temporarily closed 24 hours a day from Monday 14 November until Monday 28 November 2022.

The Canal and River Trust have notified canal users of this closure and information can also be found at https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices.
