What we are doing
As part of our preparatory work for the road bridges over HS2 at the A421 and the A4421, we need to relocate some utilities on these roads. Works to relocate these utilities will be carried out over two phases.
Phase 1 – We will temporarily be moving overhead electricity cables underground along the A4421 and A421 while we prepare to build the new road bridges over HS2.
Phase 2 – When the new bridges are near completion, these utility cables will then be relocated to their new permanent position, along the new bridges.
During Phase 1, Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) will be carrying out the temporary diversion of these 11KV electricity cables.
SSE will be working in open trenches within the carriageway. The A4421 and A421 will remain open to traffic, but for reasons of safety, there will be a lane closure with two-way traffic lights for the duration of these works.
During these works will also be constructing a new site entrance for our compound along the A421.
Traffic management on the A421 is expected to be in place 24-hours a day and begin – Monday 25 July to late 2023. The A4421 will have 24-hours a day traffic management in place from Monday 8 August into late 2023.
These works will also require some localised vegetation clearance. We do not anticipate any disruption to local utility services.
Where works allow, we will remove traffic management within the closure period when it is not required, to further reduce disruption.
