What we are doing
Reference studs for monitoring
On Friday 28 January 2022 in the daytime, we will use a small hammer to install two studs in the joints between the kerb and paving slabs. Any noise will be minimal and very brief.
The studs will act as reference points (approximate locations shown on the map overleaf) in the area where no ground movement is expected from tunnelling (outside the ‘zone of influence’). A comparison can be made with reference points located on Network Rail land which enables our monitoring team to check the ground movement predictions when tunnelling takes place later in the year.
The monitoring needs to be undertaken when trains are not running and will be carried out in the early hours of Sunday 30 January.
Our surveyors will use a tripod placed on the ground to take measurements and distances.
We will monitor the ground by taking further readings throughout the year when the tunnel boring machines are passing nearby.
We will maintain access to footpaths and driveways for the duration of these works.
