What we are doing
During 2025, we will be carrying out some protection works in your local area, including works to protect the Grade II* Listed Camden Winding Engine Vaults beneath the current railway. The underground vaults housed two stationary steam engines, between 1837 and 1844, to power a rope to haul trains up the steep approach to Euston from the Fitzroy Bridge.
The enabling works next to the railway track and within the underground vaults to take place from 1 December 2024 to 23 February 2025.
- The works include installing scaffolding to allow safe access, and non-intrusive surveys to confirm what protective works we may need to do. Scaffolding equipment and a lorry mounted crane will travel by road using the existing rail access point on Juniper Crescent.
- Deliveries will take place every Sunday when trains are not using the tracks, between 1am and 7am. Survey works will take place during 8am – 6pm.
- Within this time there may be periods of noisy works when lifting materials from the crane onto our site. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Use of the Adelaide Road site welfare facilities
From Tuesday 14 January 2025, the welfare facilities in the Adelaide Road Ventilation Shaft and Headhouse site will be used by our staff for the remainder of 2025, as part of the ongoing works to protect the Grade II* Listed Camden Winding Engine Vaults located beneath the railway near Juniper Crescent and Gilbey’s Yard.
The workforce will be transported between our Adelaide Road site and the Vaults by minibus, so the site gates will be in use for the minibus during working hours.
The Adelaide Road Ventilation Shaft and Headhouse site will remain in a ‘safe stop’ until further notice, with no site activities taking place other than security and maintenance works.
