What we are doing
We will be continuing our construction work for the HS2 railway to pass through Water Orton. Since 2020 we have been setting up and working from our compound near the B4118, Birmingham Road. As our work continues to develop, our site continues to evolve. This notification summarises our work in this location over the upcoming months along with a compound layout map. The works and timings outlined below are subject to change and some of these works may be subject to consent.
First, we will continue works to create the Water Orton Cutting, which includes 24 hour working. This is the removal of earth from ground level to allow the trainline to run under the future Attleboro Lane Overbridge. This will include excavation and diaphragm wall works continuing towards Attleboro Lane, with works expected to be complete in Summer 2023.
In addition, we will begin the construction of the Attleboro Lane Overbridge. The overbridge will divert the existing road over the Water Orton Cutting. This will include a method known as auger-based piling works. This type of piling is less impactful than other methods both in terms of noise and vibration. The piles will be used to form a foundation that provides support for the overbridge by distributing the weight of the structure evenly across the ground. The first phase of piling will start from November 2022, with works continuing until Saturday 17 December 2022, then restarting from January 2023 until March 2023.
Our works to create a temporary pond will continue until the end of October. This will allow us to manage site water run-off. These works will include excavating, with some compacting.
We will continue to have deliveries to site and the construction and testing of our slurry treatment plant buildings, near the B4118 Birmingham Road, will continue throughout 2022.
