Work Item Summary

- 07/02/2025

What we are doing
We are constructing a box structure to take the new HS2 line under the A46 near Kenilworth. This is being built off-line and will be moved into place using a “box push” technique across the existing carriageway in spring 2025. To prepare, we will need to alter the VRS (vehicle restraint system), central reservations layout and complete some advance works on the cross-carriageway drainage. To complete these works safely we will install temporary full weekend closures of the A46.
When the work will take place
To ensure the safety of our workforce, we will be closing a section of the A46 between Festival Island (Coventry) and Thickthorn Island (Kenilworth) over the weekends:
- 8pm Friday 7 February to 6am Monday 10 February
- 8pm Friday 14 February to 6am Monday 17 February
We will then require a final longer closure later in the spring to push the new box into place. Further details of those works will be shared in the New Year. Following the weekend closures, we will have an ongoing lane closure northbound and narrow lanes to the southbound carriageway until the new box is in place.
What to expect
Fully signposted diversions for HGVs in the region, a signed local diversion and special access arrangements to the villages of Stoneleigh
and Ashow, please see attached notification of work for further details.
