What we are doing
As part of the main construction phase for the various bridges being built in the Aylesbury and Fleet Marston area, we expect multiple deliveries of abnormal loads along the A41 Bicester Road. From October 2025, we expect the delivery of the steel deck in 2 sections for the Waddesdon Greenway footbridge crossing. Due to their size, they are classed as abnormal loads. Following this initial delivery, there will be further abnormal loads deliveries along this route to supply our other bridges and structures until late 2026. In an effort to reduce our impact on the local area as well as the amount of work on-site, many components for these structures are being created off-site.
To safely deliver them to the EKFB site compound on the A41, there will be temporary traffic management at certain points on the A41 overnight. The abnormal load delivery route is submitted to the Police and Local Highway Authorities for approval by the hauliers and are the same as our usual route to this site, from the M40 and along the A41.
These deliveries will commence in mid October 2025 until late 2026. The deliveries will usually take place at night to minimise traffic disruption. Associated traffic management will be in place overnight between 8pm- 5:30am when a delivery is made, usually on Wednesdays and Fridays subject to road and weather conditions.
These dates may change due to conditions outside of our control. Please refer to the HS2 website regularly to check for any changes and updates. Wherever possible, we will minimise the impact on highway users by coordinating deliveries to avoid peak times.
