What we are doing
We will start constructing the diaphragm wall that will support the Bromford Tunnel West Portal on 22 November 2021. This work is expected to continue for a period of 14 months. The Tunnel Portal will be an entry and exit point to the tunnel for the new HS2 trains.
How we will construct the diaphragm wall
The diaphragm wall will be constructed by excavating the ground with large
machinery in a series of sections. Each section will be stabilised with a
specialised fluid to support the ground before it is then filled with concrete.
What to expect
• We will be using large machinery to excavate
• Our bentonite plant will be operational to produce the specialised
stabilising fluid. Bentonite is a natural occurring material that will be
mixed with water to produce a clay that helps to support the
ground as we excavate
• On some occasions we may need to work outside of core hours to
complete concrete pours.
