What we are doing
In 2013, Glebe House on the A418 Oxford Road was identified as requiring demolition in the environmental statement owing to its proximity to the route of the HS2 railway line. As such the property and the surrounding land was acquired to facilitate construction.
Upon detailed design of this section of the railway, we have considered alternatives to demolition including changes to the design of the railway. After consideration of alternative options, it is not practicable to avoid demolition of the building, and it is essential for the construction of the railway.
The land that the main house and associated outbuildings stands on will be cleared to facilitate the construction of the railway according to the required design standards. The land will form part of an ecological mitigation area and re-planted on completion of the railway.
The demolition process is expected to take approximately 6 weeks and will not require closures or traffic management on the A418 Oxford Road. Opportunities for material salvage have been offered to the appropriate bodies.
When will these works take place?
Beginning Monday 23 September and continuing for approximately 6 weeks.
These dates may change due to conditions outside of our control, but we will endeavour to complete them in or around the dates suggested above.
