Notice of Ellesborough Road lane closure for utility works

What we are doing

During the last 4 weeks, we have been completing tie in works to join the new alignment of Ellesborough Road into the existing carriageway. Our team have so far constructed and resurfaced the tie in points, installed safety barriers and worked with our partners to redirect utilities.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, the high voltage electricity cable situated above the new alignment was not able to be realigned during this closure period. Due to strike risk caused by the low height of the cable, which is situated above the new alignment, we are unable to open the new road as planned, until the cable is relocated.

The original alignment has now been reinstated and will be open on 28 February, on a temporary basis, pending the removal of the cable on the new alignment.

There will be two way traffic lights, 24 hours a day on Ellesborough Road, until the traffic is diverted onto the new alignment.

Pedestrian and resident access will be maintained throughout this lane closure.

Ellesborough Road must be diverted to continue with the construction of Wendover Green Tunnel and to enable us to move excavated materials around the site without impact the road network. The diversion includes a temporary new bridge which will enable road users to pass over our site.

When will these works take place?

• Wednesday 28th February to Friday 22nd March 2024

Please note, these dates may be subject to change due to circumstances outside of our control but will be completed on or around the timings specified.

Should our team finish earlier than planned, we will open the road when practicable.
