What we are doing
To construct the railway, we need to carry out trial holes within our site at Washwood Heath. This is because the site was previously used for industrial purposes, so we need to remove any contaminants from the soil so it can be reused. The trial holes will help us to understand what contaminants are within the soil and how best to treat them.
To carry out these trial holes we will be using an excavator and other machinery which may generate some noise. When we are working on solid ground types such as tarmac or hardcore neighbours may also feel some vibration. We will be monitoring both the noise and vibrations levels to ensure that we are working within our safe and permitted levels.
As there are various contaminants within the soil from time to time you may also notice a strong smell of diesel in the air as we excavate. This is not hazardous to health and will be localised and will not last.
We expect to complete these trial holes within four weeks. There may however be a need for us to carry on with these works beyond this time, if the results of the trial hole samples require further exploration. We will keep you informed if this is the case.
