What we are doing
We will be creating grassland and woodland habitats on land off Moor Lane. This is part of HS2’s plan to create a Green Corridor of richer, more diverse and better-connected landscapes along the railway. The Green Corridor is the largest single environmental project in the UK. Part of these works will also include the creation of hibernaculums and installation of bat and bird boxes. Hibernaculums are places where creatures, like reptiles seek refuge to keep themselves warm over the winter period.
Before we start to construct the habitat areas, we need to excavate some archaeological trial trenches. These are to help us understand if there are many archaeological features or natural geological deposits, that we need to be aware of before we start any other work. We will use a mechanical excavator to dig the trenches. No further excavation takes place at this stage.
When the work will take place
We will start the excavation work on 24 June 2022. We will begin the habitat creation works once we have carried out the archaeological work.
