What we are doing
Throughout 2023, we have been carrying out the construction of the A421 realignment and permanent overbridge. This new overbridge will carry traffic over the HS2 railway and along the newly aligned A421. Our teams must now carry out further utility diversions along this road which will require traffic management in the form of traffic lights and a full weekend closure.
In early February, we will be carrying out some utility works along the verges of the A421. To facilitate these works, there will be temporary traffic management in the form of two-way traffic lights. These are expected to be in place during the day for approximately one week.
In late February, we will be diverting utilities below a section of the A421. For reasons of safety, we need to fully close this section of the A421, 24-hours a day, for one weekend. This closure is required because our teams will be working in open trenches directly in the carriageway.
When will these works take place?
A section of the A421 will have temporary traffic lights in early February for approximately one week between 8.30am and 5.30pm.
A section of the A421 will be fully closed, 24-hours a day, from 6am Saturday 24 February to 10pm Sunday 25 February, with a signed diversion in place.
Should our teams complete these works early, they will reopen the road as soon as possible.
Access will be maintained for emergency services with caution.
