What we are doing

Speak with our local engagement team
As part of our gradual return to face-to-face engagement, our local engagement team are planning to run community pop-ups in the Old Oak area during February and March 2022. We’ll provide more information about these shortly. Our local engagement team observing social distancing and may choose to wear facemasks during this outdoors engagement. We kindly ask that you do not attend the pop-ups if you have tested positive or have COVID-19 symptoms. Please note, these dates may be postponed at the last minute as we keep the ongoing COVID-19 situation under review.

Speak with our local engagement team virtually
If you have any concerns about speaking with our local engagement team in person, we are happy to arrange a time to speak with you virtually. Please contact the HS2 Helpdesk via the contact details below to arrange this. Our local engagement team is also available at virtual 1:1s for local residents on the fourth Wednesday of each month between 3pm and 6pm. What to expect during these works
During the works outlined in this update you may notice one or a few of the following in our sites:
• Heavy goods vehicles
• Excavators
• Cranes
• Lighting towers
• Concreting equipment

Temporary traffic management may be required on roads in your local area during some of our works. We will always write to you in advance of any changes to the road network.

Reducing disruption to you
We are continuing to monitor noise, dust and vibration in line with the HS2 Code of Construction Practice. Other measures in place to reduce disruption to our neighbours include:
• Additional attending monitoring
• Operation of wheel washes to clean vehicle wheels as they depart site
• Dust suppression sprays on works and site roads including water bowsers during hot and dry weather
• Use off noise reducing blankets where possible
• Covering of material, deliveries or loads entering and leaving sites
• Monitoring of working methods to ensure minimal disruption is caused

Street cleaning in your local area
We are working together with HS2’s other contractors in your local area to carry out regular street sweeping. SCSJV is currently street sweeping Victoria Road at least once a day. We are monitoring this regularly and carrying out additional sweeper runs when required. Street sweeping also underway in our sites, along Atlas Road and along Channel Gate Road.
Our team are also carrying out manual street sweeps of the footways along Victoria Road and Channel Gate Road – you may have seen our operatives out and about doing this.
As mentioned above, all loads are covered before leaving our sites. If you witness a construction vehicle leaving any of our sites without a cover in place, please contact the Helpdesk and provide the date / time and registration details of the vehicle. This will be investigated with our Logistics team.

Ongoing works at Atlas Road site
Works are continuing to prepare the Atlas Road site for future works to build the logistics tunnel, the conveyor system and storage of the tunnel segments. Ongoing works during spring 2022 will include:
• Works to install the conveyor structure and works to build working platforms and storage areas including excavations, backfills and concrete pours / curing.
• Installation of gantry crane foundations
• Ongoing installation of site roads and site utilities connections
• Ongoing construction of the launch ramp and box for the Atlas Road Logistics Tunnel including excavations, pre-fabricated steel installation, reinforced concrete works and drainage
• Construction of foundations and steel frames for future tunnelling boring machine works

We are planning to hold a community information event about future works to build the logistics tunnel and will let you know when the date for this event when it is confirmed.

Ongoing works at Willesden Euroterminal site
Rail terminal operations are continuing at the Willesden Euroterminal site to remove excavated materials from the local area by rail. We are also receiving excavated materials by road from other HS2 sites in the local area. Ongoing works during spring 2022 will include:
• Receipt of excavated materials by road and removal by rail (up to one train per day)
• Works to replace site hoardings along Stephenson Street planned from mid-February
• Works to build storage areas for future tunnel segments and conveyor system foundations
• Works to construct gantry crane foundations including excavations and reinforced concrete

We are expecting to increase to up to two train movements per day from spring 2022 – we will provide updates to the local community in advance of this.

Installation of conveyor system – all sites
Works are continuing to install the conveyor system in our Flat Iron, Atlas Road and Willesden Euroterminal sites.
These works include construction of the conveyor foundations and towers and installation of the conveyor structure. Testing and commissioning of the conveyor system in the SCSJV sites is planned from April 2022*. We’ll let you know about this in advance.

Upcoming road closure on Victoria Road for conveyor crossing installation
We are planning to install the final two conveyor crossings over Victoria Road on the weekend of 26 and 27 March 2022* (with a contingency date of 28 March). To minimise disruption to the road network, these works will take place overnight. A road closure is planned to be in place overnight on 26 and 27 March from 10pm and 6am the following morning. A vehicle diversion route will be clearly signed.
The date for these works may change. We will write to local community with more information about these works nearer the time as some of the details remain subject to confirmation.

Online update meeting about the conveyor system
SCSJV and BBVS will be holding an online update event about the conveyor system on Thursday 3 February from 6:30-7:30pm. Should you wish to attend, please register at www.hs2.org.uk/events/

Ongoing utility surveys
We are continuing to carry out utility surveys in various locations along the HS2 tunnel route, including some locations in and around the Old Oak and Park Royal area. We will write to you in advance of any utility surveys that might impact you. You can view the latest updates about current and upcoming utility surveys www.hs2.org.uk/in-your-area/map.
From spring 2022, we are planning to carry out utility diversion works on Chase Road and Park Royal Road in 2022. The dates for these works remain subject to the ongoing utilities design. We are also coordinating these works with HS2 other contractors (CSJV and BBVS) to minimise disruption to you and the road network as much as possible. We will provide more information in advance of these works.
