What we are doing
Notice of Upcoming Bridge Works
High Speed Two (HS2) is the new high speed railway for Britain. Old Oak Common Lane will be widened and lowered in a few years. We previously wrote to you about the preparation works that are needed for this to happen. This update is to advise of the change in programme dates.
There are a series of trainlines that cross over old oak common lane via several bridges. These bridge structures need replacing to accommodate trains for the new station at Old Oak Common. One of the bridges is redundant and needs to be removed, this is called the Wycombe Single Line bridge.
Old Oak Common Lane
What is happening and when:
To support the bridge replacements and demolition, we will be piling along the east side area of Old Oak Common Lane from Monday 17 April to Friday 27 May (excluding bank holidays).
The working times will be Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm and Saturdays, 8am to 1pm.
Impact:
During this time there will be increased noise and vibration and we will be using noise blocking covers to minimise disturbance and the vibration levels will be monitored. For the duration of works, we will be using various tools and machinery, including trucks, cranes, saw cutters and drills.
A southbound lane closure, with temporary traffic light control, will be in place from Monday 17 April. You might notice an
increase in traffic along Old Oak Common Lane during the lane closure. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works.
Duration of works
Lane closure on Monday 3 April – Tuesday 4 April. Bridge works from Monday 17 April until 27 May 2023.
Our main working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am until 6pm and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.
There will be some ad hoc night work.
What to expect
Use of machinery including piling rigs, trucks and cranes. Noise from sawing and drilling.
Southbound lane closure on Old Oak Common Lane.
What we will do
Use noise blocking covers, monitor noise and vibration, and dampen down when saw cutting.
Wycombe Single Line bridge
On Monday 3 April 8pm until 1am Tuesday 4 April, there will be a temporary lane closure in place so we can attach monitoring equipment to the Wycombe Single Line bridge. We anticipate these works will be for a short period of time.
The demolition of the Wycombe Single Line bridge is currently expected to take place during May. The work will be carried out under full road and footway closure to ensure public safety. The length of time to remove the Wycombe Single Line bridge is anticipated to take a week.
Central Line Works
What is happening and when:
From Wednesday 26 April we will be piling near the Central Line. We will need to carry out some piling works between 1am and 5am, due to the proximity to moving trains.
We will be removing some existing structures which may require works to be carried out on the concrete and further works may be needed to compact that soil, which requires vibrating equipment.
After these works are complete, we will extend the existing hoarding from Wednesday 3May to Tuesday 9 May
Impact:
We have committed to using a modern method of piling which involves drilling and concreting at the same time, which creates less noise and vibration.
We will place sensors around the site to monitor noise and these will be triggered if the noise levels become too high and we will stop works. The lighting will be facing away from residents to minimise light disturbance
