Update: utility works in South Hampstead, Phase 1

From 21 July 2025 to 17 July 2026 we will be carrying out works to divert the gas main in South Hampstead area. These works are to protect the gas main in advance of future HS2 tunnelling.

We will carry out this work in six phases, for details please follow the link to the Notice of utility works in South Hampstead.

Phase One – works on College Crescent and Alexandra Road from 21 July to 21 September 2025

Update on College Crescent from 21 July to 21 September 2025  

• Our core working hours are from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. On some Saturdays we may need to work extended hours, from 8am until 6pm. During the extended hours we will keep noisy works to a minimum.
• There will be a lane closure on College Crescent with one way traffic only. A traffic diversion will be in place. 
• We have extended our work area on College Crescent by about 20 metres. This is to allow our vehicles to safely enter and exit the site from Avenue Road. We cannot enter the site via College Crescent due to unrelated emergency utility works at that location. This is not expected to have any additional impact on traffic flow.
• Bus stop G is suspended. Bus stop F will remain open. Please plan ahead of any travel using buses in this area during the works. You can find the latest updates at www.tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey.

Update: works on Alexandra Road to start from 26 August to 20 September 2025.

Due to scheduling changes, works on Alexandra Road now take place from Tuesday 26 August to Saturday 20 September 2025.

• There will be a full road closure on Alexandra Road with parking bay suspensions from the junction of Loudoun Road to 18 Alexandra Road.
• There will be a traffic diversion in place. Access will be maintained for residents.
• These works may be noisy and there may be some dust. We’ll use noise reducing barriers where possible and spray water to reduce dust.
• The bicycle storage unit has been temporarily moved from Alexandra Road to the front of All Souls Church, Loudoun Road. The e-bike parking area will also be temporarily moved to the same location before the works begin. The storage unit and e-bike parking area will be moved back to Alexandra Road in Summer 2026.
