What we are doing

Construction at Old Oak Common Station is progressing and works to the conventional station have started. The conventional station includes a new station building and eight above ground platforms that will connect the HS2 station to the Great Western Main Line and the Elizabeth Line. Passengers will travel to and from the conventional station and HS2 Station via an overbridge.

We will construct some trial sections of the conventional station in the Flat Iron site; location shown on the map on page 2. The trial process will include building ‘mock ups’ or replicas of a concrete column to support the overbridge; a concrete lift shaft wall; a section of platform wall and a small section of the precast concrete overbridge beams between the platforms. The ‘mock ups’ allow us to review and approve the architectural components of these works before construction on site. This allows us to ensure the finished product is going to be acceptable for incorporation into the main works.

Key Impacts
We will continually monitor noise and dust levels throughout the works. To manage potential dust, we will be damping down (wetting the ground) during the minor excavations and spoil will be removed by skips. To mitigate for possible noise, we will use acoustic blankets whenever possible, and works will be undertaken during core working hours. All staff, operatives and contractors will be reminded through regular briefings, to be respectful to the local community.
