What we are doing
The work we will be doing
We will set up a working area, on a section of land in the Parish of Swinfen and Packington, off the A51 Tamworth Road. These works will commence the construction of the HS2 line in this area, starting in October 2020. The first activity we will undertake is to set up a satellite compound at the former Ruttle Plant site off the A51, near Whittington (see map on page 2).
The following works will be undertaken at this site and will continue through 2021. We will:
- Continue site surveys at the compound site and the working area.
- Create an access from our compound and a boundary around our working area.
- Construct a haul road which will be used by our construction vehicles. Haul roads are temporary roads provided within a working area to allow for the movement of construction materials, construction machinery and/or construction staff around the site. Haul roads are Balfour Beatty Vinci’s preferred logistical transport link, as they reduce the number of vehicle movements interfering with the existing local road network and provide the greatest possible control over works activity.
- Create safe, controlled crossings, giving priority, for users of Swinfen and Packington Bridleway 8 and the farm access tracks located within our working area. Where haul roads cross highways, bridleways and public footpaths, controlled crossings are put in place to ensure public safety.
- Install drainage, undertake ground investigation surveys and divert any utilities which are located, within our working area.
- Create a working area, next to Packington Moor Farm, to prepare the land for drainage, soil movements and construction activities, before we commence the construction of early landscape earthworks in the area.
