What we are doing
In January 2023 we will start installing bored piles to create the foundations for the new viaduct that will carry the HS2 line over the
realigned Gilson Road.
To prepare for the piling works, we will install further welfare facilities at our site south of Gilson Road. We will use machinery such as cranes to lift units into place throughout December 2022 and January 2023.
We will also need to continue to create a safe space for our operations known as piling platforms. We will do this by excavating the ground, backfilling and then compacting the area. This is set to be complete by the end of January 2023.
Once we have completed these preparatory works, we will start piling operations from the end of January 2023 and expect to be piling until the end of March 2023. Bored piles are used to form a foundation that provides support for structures by distributing their weight evenly across the ground. To install the piles, we will use a piling machine to drill a vertical hole deep into the ground. We will then lower the reinforced steel into the hole using a crane before filling the hole with concrete. As we carry out this work there will be deliveries of materials, construction equipment and machinery.
Noise and vibration will be carefully managed with monitoring in place throughout these works.
