What we are doing
Constructing a new Aston Church Road Overbridge
As we build the new high speed railway line in Birmingham, we need to rebuild the existing overbridge on Aston Church Road. We need to do this work because the existing bridge does not currently have enough headroom for the new HS2 trains to pass underneath.
To rebuild the bridge, we will need to close Aston Church Road for approximately 14 months, from Saturday 5 October 2024 until Monday 1 December 2025. These dates are earliest dates subject to change.
To complete preparation works for the closure we will also need to close the A47 on Saturday 5 October and Sunday 6 October from 10.00pm to 6.00am.
Diversion route
To keep traffic moving in the area cars will be diverted along A47 Heartlands Parkway, Saltley Viaduct and Washwood Heath Road. Access to businesses and properties will be maintained. We will share the road diversion routes once they have been confirmed. A pedestrian route will be shared with communities ahead of the closure. There are no impacts to bus routes.
Travel times
Travel times may be impacted due to the diversion routes and would advise road users to plan their journeys in advance. Where possible we would advise road users to consider the timings of their journeys to avoid peak traffic hours as well as considering whether they need to drive or if they could use an alternative method of travel.
