Road closures for work on B4455 Fosse Way in Offchurch

What we are doing

To get ready for the main phase of building HS2, LM has been working closely with HS2’s main construction contractor, Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV), since mid-2020 to coordinate a realignment of a small section of the Fosse Way. HS2 will be built under the Fosse Way in a cutting, and we are creating two new roundabouts and realigning roads in the area to enable safe construction of the railway.
A new permanent roundabout at the junction of Fosse Way and Welsh Road, and a temporary roundabout at the junction of Fosse Way and Long Itchington Road (National Cycle Route 41), will help us keep local communities, farmers and businesses moving on an improved road network throughout HS2 construction and railway operation.

LM has been building the scheme away from roads to reduce disruption, but our final work to ‘tie in’ the roundabouts and realigned roads needs to happen on the roads themselves – and we need to create safe working zones, keeping road users away from construction. We are due to close the Fosse Way for around 2.5 weeks from mid-November to early December 2021, and again for around 3.5 weeks from early February to early March 2022.

We are shortly due to start works for the second roundabout at The Fosse Way/Long Itchington Road junction. This means that Long Itchington Road (National Cycle Rte. 41) will need to close on both sides of the Fosse Way between 14 February until late May 2022.
The reason for the closure is to carry out utility connections, drainage, earthworks, carriageway realignment and tie-in works etc. as required for the construction of the roundabout at this location. Also as previously notified, temporary traffic lights will continue be erected along the Fosse Way as and when required until the next phaseof works commences along the Fosse Way, where a section of the Fosse Way and Long Itchington Road will be closed simultaneously around mid-April, to complete the roundabout at this location.

Road closures can be impactful and frustrating, and we’ll be working closely with local councils, communities and road users to make sure everyone is aware of the dates, details and diversion routes for upcoming closures. We will build the Welsh Road roundabout first and bring it into use before finishing the Long Itchington Road roundabout second. We’ll be working on different sections of Fosse Way, Welsh Road and Long Itchington Road between October 2021 and April 2022 to complete the new sections of roads, and oversee a number of changes to utilities in the area – needed to keep everything running smoothly and safely.
