What we are doing

We are remodelling and improving sections of the existing road network in the area and creating new routes on HS2 land. These road improvements will ensure that when the future HS2 Interchange Station is operational, the local road network is fit for purpose. Upon completion, a new T-junction will replace Northway Island. A new ‘longabout’ is already in operation outside the Holiday Inn Express NEC, on the way to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

We started the creation of the new T-junction in April 2021. To enable us to continue to connect parts of the existing road network to the new routes we create, a series of weekend road closures will be installed in 2021 near Northway Island.

We will install a temporary, weekend road closure around parts of Northway Island, and along short sections of the B4438 southbound and A452 northbound, from 8pm on Friday 15 October through to 5am on Monday 18 October.

A signed diversion route will be in place for road users during the weekend road closure. The extent of the closure and the diversion routes are highlighted on a map in the notification below.

Throughout the closure, we will maintain access to all buildings and businesses in the area including Melbicks Garden Centre. Please see below for the most appropriate diversion routes to the garden centre.
