Update: notice of environmental works to land south of Newcastle Road, Hough

What we are doing

As part of our early environmental works, we will establish critical environmental and species relocation sites creating new habitats for local wildlife before any main work starts.

We have recently finished the archaeological trial trenches on land to the South of Newcastle Road. We will now start work to create ecological mitigation ponds. We will surround the ponds with grassland habitat that we will create as part of the work. We will use the ponds to relocate any protected species, such as Great Crested Newts before we need to remove any other habitats.

When the work will take place

We will start the excavation of the ponds on 8 August 2022, and the work will be ongoing throughout the year ready for planting the aquatic plants in them in autumn.

The timeline for the works is shown below:

• Mitigation pond creation – August ’22 to October ‘22
• Grassland creation – September ‘22 to October ‘22
• Woodland creation – September ’22 to November ‘23
• Hedge planting – September ’22 to October ‘22
• Demobilisation – December ‘22
