What we are doing
We are building the sprayed concrete lining (SCL) tunnel that will connect the Victoria Road Crossover Box (VRCB) to the Old Oak Common (OOC) site on Old Oak Common Lane. We will works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The 360-metre long tunnel will be approximately 12 metres deep (to the crown of the tunnel) as it passes below Kildun Court and Wells House Road, approaching Old Oak Common Station.
Unlike bored tunnels, which are built using a tunnel boring machine, the SCL method allows variation in the tunnel shape and diameter of the tunnels, which are required in this location. The width of the tunnels varies as they approach Old Oak Common Station to allow for track separation as trains are changing tracks when travelling to and from the station.
