What we are doing
Works to continue to build the ventilation shaft
We first wrote to you in July 2021 about works to start excavating Westgate Ventilation Shaft at our Westgate site. This will be 15 metres wide and about 43 metres deep to connect to the HS2 tunnels.
As we continue to build the Ventilation Shaft, our construction team will now construct the next stages, which are as follows:
1. We will install a concrete collar around the cross passages between the tunnels to support the ground.
2. We will start excavating and applying sprayed concrete lining (SCL) to the cross passages.
3. We will do waterproofing works in the shaft and complete secondary lining.
4. In Q3 2023, we will be installing 130 CFA piles for the construction of the headhouse.
The map on the following page shows the location of these works.
Our working hours
We will continue to work 24 hours a day from 8am on Mondays until 6pm on Saturdays. Extended working hours until 10pm on Saturdays for large concrete pours might be required.
For our piling works from Summer2023, our working hours will be 8am to 6pm from Mondays to Fridays.
