What we are doing
Please see below updated schedule of works at the Mandeville Road Vent Shaft site. Due to a programme update, some of the dates have changed since we have updated you in October.
24/7 below ground works
Our below ground, 24 hours a day, seven days a week works which were planned to start on 7 November 2025, will now start on 8 December 2025. We work on the following days:
- 8 to 23 December 2025
- 5 to 21 January 2026
Below ground works to connect the main shaft to the tunnel including:
- Breaking concrete
- Concrete removed via the tunnel
Site working hours
Our site workings hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturdays. We may need to work until 6pm on some Saturdays. The works include as per below:
Ongoing until late January 2026 – railway embankment works
- Sheet piling
- Installing boundary fence
- Preparation for retaining wall
Ongoing until 24 December 2025 – cable diversion works
- Ground excavations on railway embankments east and west of site
Ongoing until summer 2026 – headhouse works
- Ground excavations and breaking concrete
- Sheet piling
Concrete pours for headhouse base slab – five days in December 2025 and four days in January 2026
- Working hours: 6am to 10pm, Monday to Friday
- Machinery deliveries from 4am
- Pours to start at 6am with varied finishing times no later than 10pm
Additional tower crane to be delivered to site – 27 and 28 January 2026
- Working hours: 6am to 6pm
- Crane delivered in parts and assembled on site
- Early morning delivery for safety reasons
We will keep you updated if any changes in above schedule.
HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
