What we are doing
What is happening?
As you’re aware, the new HS2 railway will pass above one of our existing gas pipelines at Chorlton, between Audley and Nantwich. We’re legally required to divert the pipeline to allow for the build and operation of the new railway and so it can continue to operate safely and reliably.
We expect to start the main works around early December. We’ll create a temporary access road so we can reach the gas pipeline that we need to divert. The entrance to the temporary road will be off Newcastle Road, between Heath Farm and the West Coast Main Line railway, to the east of Hough.
What will you notice?
In preparation, we need to clear some vegetation in and around the area. Our contractors, Fastflow, will start this work around mid-October. An ecologist will be on hand to ensure they keep the clearance to a minimum. It’s likely to take around two weeks to complete. None of our work will affect gas supplies.
We don’t expect to close roads or to install temporary traffic lights while we clear the vegetation. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes. Our core working hours will be 8am to 6pm on weekdays (excluding bank holidays) and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. Except in the case of an emergency, any work required to be undertaken outside of core hours (not including repairs or maintenance) will be agreed with the local authority. We’ll be in touch again before we start our main works.
