What we are doing

National Grid is legally required to move a number of overhead electricity lines, pylons and gas pipelines along the HS2 route to allow for the build and operation of the new railway. As you may be aware, the new HS2 railway will pass above one of our existing gas pipelines in Yarlet, which we’ll divert in 2023 so it can continue to operate safely and reliably.

I wanted to get in touch to provide an update on work we’ll soon carry out in your area. We’re about to start topography surveys along the A34 in Yarlet, between Yarlet Lane and Upper Farm, to help us understand the natural and artificial features of the land.

So we can carry out these surveys safely, we’ll introduce an overnight lane closure on the A34. The closure of the northbound inside lane will be in place from Monday 15 August to Friday 19 August from 8pm until 6am. During this time our traffic management contractor, McPhillips, will introduce a 1.5km contraflow and the speed limit will reduce to 30mph through our works area.

The survey work, carried out by our contractors, Jacobs, will be non-intrusive however, those closest to the site may notice around four people using GPS machinery as they take scans of the carriageway and verges. For the safety of our workers, we’ll use intermittent, low level lighting, powered by a low noise generator. We’ll remind our contractor teams of the importance of considerate working practices and we’ll do everything we can to keep disturbance to a minimum. None of our work will affect gas supplies.
