The Rural Support Zone (RSZ) is the area outside the safeguarded area, which is typically up to 120 metres from the centre line of the HS2 railway in rural areas.

In the RSZ there is the choice of 2 discretionary schemes – a Cash Offer or the Voluntary Purchase Scheme.

The Cash Offer is designed to help people who do not want to sell their home and would prefer to stay within their community. Under the Voluntary Purchase Scheme, owner-occupiers can ask the Government to buy their property for its full unblighted open-market value.

The application process is the same for both. You do not need to choose an option until your property has been valued.

If you have submitted an application to one of our RSZ schemes, please contact your case officer directly for more information. Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected]
