Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated Senior Design Manager to join the Egis Transport Solutions MEPHFC Design Team. The ideal candidate will have experience in rail station building services design and coordination.

As a Senior Design Manager, you will be a senior member of the team and will be required to support the Associate Director, who leads the MEPHFC team. You will lead and manage other Design Managers and Engineers and be responsible for the production and delivery of MEPHFC designs. We are looking for someone who’s dedicated, diligent, and driven, and will take this challenge head on, being an important part of a dynamic team with big ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:

Deputise for the Associate Director where required
Responsible for providing a clear vision and team direction by leading a high-performing team through the effective management, development and empowerment of staff
Manage internal and external resources to produce outputs/deliverables in line with contract requirements and client expectations
Establish and manage Technical Assurance processes, in line with project and client requirements, and rail industry norms and best practice
Retain full control of project programmes, interrogate supply chain programmes and challenge slippage. Work collaboratively to develop and implement mitigation measures
Manage CEM and CREs to ensure governance in compliance with NR-L2-RSE-02009 (Engineering Management for Projects).
Set and maintain high standards in the production of design deliverables, ensuring information is clear and concise, and risk free. Nurturing a get it right first-time culture within the team
Proactively review design documentation to ensure construction risks are mitigated at the design stage
Manage the engineering team for production of design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with British Standards & Eurocodes, across projects ranging from GRIP 1 to GRIP 5 / RIBA 2 to 5 / ES1-3
Manage the production and coordination of design information in a 3D environment to BIM Standards
Manage CDM and CSM-REA requirements and processes, ensuring risks are mitigated As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)
Produce and maintain design trackers
Produce and issue meeting minutes recording key discussions and agreements
Manage the production, issue and closure of RFI’s and TQ’s
Liaise with Project Managers and Commercial Managers to produce and issue project communications e.g. EWN’s and GC’s
Coordinate and manage engineering activities so they result in affordable solutions and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality
Produce and issue progress reports and dashboards
Be responsible for the consistency of the deliverables across your projects
Review, evaluate and implement rail industry standards to ensure compliance of the engineering deliverables to the standards
Promotion and implementation of digital solutions and innovation across Egis projects

You will also work on:

Bidding opportunities across the UK and International Rail business: for technical support in your discipline.
Projects for multiple commissions across the UK and International Transportation business

Qualifications
Essential:
Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Member of an engineering institute and has Engineering Council Professional Registration
10-15 years’ experience in Engineering / Technical functions, working in Design Management, with at least 5 years’ experience in the rail industry
Proven capability in managing design for rail projects, especially in multi-disciplinary environments
Exemplary management skills with the ability to support, mentor and manage a project team of engineers and technicians
Excellent understanding of rail engineering, including Network Rail and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR)
Experience of multi-disciplinary design and coordination, and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stages
Proven capability in managing design interfaces and integration processes
Experience of design assurance requirements & processes
Accountable for reviewing and completion of DRN comments for WPP and Design Reviews, Form C/Form G/Form A/B, or equivalent
Understanding of project scopes, requirements, works information, and excellent commercial awareness
Ability to deliver work to a programme and budget
Excellent leadership skills and mentoring experience
An ability to train and upskill team members
Expert communication, organisation, and collaboration abilities
Excellent understanding of MEPHFC systems from a technical, design, installation, buildability, and maintenance perspective
Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
YOU MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK

Desirable:

Excellent knowledge of railway infrastructure, systems, and operating requirements
Experience in rail station MEPHFC services design and coordination
Knowledge of design stages and requirements e.g. RIBA, BSRIA, GRIP
Experience in managing works in accordance with NR-L2-RSE-02009 Issue 7, Engineering Management of Projects
Experience of working in an engineering production environment
Experience of working with 3D models in a BIM environment
Experience of producing technical notes, reports, specifications, drawings, schedules and calculations
Comprehensive knowledge of British Standards and Regulations, and Rail Standards, such as Network Rail, HS2 and TfL
Good knowledge of NEC contracts and project communications
Knowledge of engineering software tools e.g. Trimble/Amtech Pro Design, Dialux, Relux, Hevacomp etc.
Knowledge of procurement activities and lead times

Anthro is a joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering. Anthro have been appointed to support the delivery of Old Oak Common Station, the London interchange for HS2. As a new ‘super-hub’, Old Oak Common Station is set to be the best-connected and largest new railway station ever constructed in Britain.
Anthro will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station. These services cover mechanical, electrical, public health, fire and communications systems within the Old Oak Common project.
The project leverages Egis’ in-depth expertise in delivering turn-key solutions for major infrastructure projects with VVB Engineering’s extensive self-delivery capability in mechanical, electrical, fire and telecommunications systems.
