HS2 in Birmingham

Britain's new high-speed railway

Birmingham sits at the heart of the new high-speed railway. The new Curzon Street station in Birmingham provides direct high-speed connections to London and the North.

Leaving Curzon Street, the HS2 crosses the city on viaducts before reaching Washwood Heath, the site of new high-speed rail network rolling stock maintenance depot and network control centre.

Programme reset

We’re making sure HS2 provides the best value for Britain by carrying out a full review of the programme for the government.

Our CEO Mark Wild is resetting HS2’s cost and schedule. He successfully led Crossrail’s recovery in the wake of major challenges. This led to the successful opening of the Elizabeth line – now the busiest in the UK.

What we're building in Birimingham

Washwood Heath depot and network integrated control centre

The maintenance building will be the main hub for operations at the site. We’ll use it to maintain the HS2 train fleet and store materials and equipment.

The network integrated control centre will oversee the whole HS2 network. It’s at the centre of the Washwood Heath depot site. This will be a standalone building for the operational and management functions of the HS2 network.

Aston Church Road overbridge

We’re building Aston Church Road overbridge to span the high-speed rail line. It will connect Saltley, Washwood Heath and Nechells in Birmingham.
