What we are doing
In March, we closed the A38 northbound slip road at Streethay to complete realignment work. At that time, we expected to reopen the slip road on a temporary alignment in October 2026.
We have explored every viable option to open a temporary realignment in October 2026 to reduce our impacts on the local community and road users. Unfortunately, there is no solution for a temporary alignment that is considered safe by an independent road safety audit and would meet standards required to protect road users and our workforce.
Safety is our first priority and we will continue to deliver the permanent realignment and reopen the slip road in April 2027.
The current diversion route will remain in place. This route has been carefully planned, is clearly signposted, and has been approved for use throughout the duration of the works.

Diversion route
The diversion route directs road users to Cappers Lane, to join the A38 via the southbound off slip road to Swinfen Island. Vehicles will use the Swinfen Island roundabout to rejoin the A38 northbound.
