What we are doing
We successfully launched the first tunnel boring machine (TBM Madeleine) from the Old Oak Common site on 26 January 2026 (upline), followed by the second downline TBM (TBM Karen) on 16 March 2026. Both machines are progressing at up to 150 metres per week.
TBM Madeleine is expected to reach Chamberlayne Road, Kensal Green, in mid-July 2026 and Kilburn High Road, Kilburn, in early September 2026, with TBM Karen passing through these locations approximately one month later.
In this area, the tunnel depth from ground level to the crown varies between 35 and 40 metres. Both TBMs are expected to complete their journey to the Euston Cavern by late June 2027.
Some residents living near the Euston Tunnel route may hear some groundborne noise as the TBMs pass, or when we are building cross passages between the tunnels. We will update you as the tunnel construction progresses.
