What we are doing
We need to extend Hampstead Road bridge to pass over the newly excavated and extended railway cutting. We’ll build a temporary road to the east of Hampstead Road, over the area known as Zone 5 for an uninterrupted traffic flow on Hampstead Road while we extend the bridge. We will carry out these works in phases until 2031.
The first phase will start from 17 October 2026 to January 2027. We will close Hampstead Road for four weeks from January to February 2027. We are looking at options to reduce the duration and impact of the closure. We will provide details of the closure closer to the time, including traffic and bus diversion routes.
After the first full closure, we will need to close Hampstead Road on two more occasions for approximately four weeks each. The table below shows our phases of works to build the temporary road and Hampstead Road bridge extension.
HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
