What we are doing

Grand Union Canal, between locks 18 and 19
Duration
The Grand Union Canal and its towpath will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am, each Monday and Tuesday, from Monday 14 September to Wednesday 30 September 2026.
What we are doing
As we progress the works on the Longhole viaduct, we will be working on the bridge deck, ready to complete the parapets later in the year. To allow this work to take place safely, we will need to close both the canal and towpath.
What to expect
The canal and towpath will remain open to the public during the day between 6am and 8pm, it will close at 8pm and reopen at 6am the following morning.
HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
