What we are doing
Work is continuing at the North Portal so it can receive the tunnel boring machines in 2024. Earthworks have progressed in the area with the cutting for the internal haul road underway.
We will be carrying out further work in preparation for the piling platform at the North Portal. This includes:
• Ecology mitigation for great crested newts
• Vegetation clearance
• Ecology mitigation for bats and an associated off peak road closure
To allow us to work close to the highway to conduct our vegetation clearance, and to protect all road users, we will need to close a section of Frith Hill near to the Weights and Measures building. The road closure at Frith Hill will be in place for one day only on the 4 October 2021. To minimise the disruption to the community and motorists we will be carrying out this closure between the hours of 9:30am and 3:30pm.
