Notice: Canal and towpath closure – Saltley

From Tuesday 14 July 2026 at 08:00am until Monday 17 August 2026 at 5:00pm, we will close the canal between Salford Junction
and Bordesley Junction. During this time the canal towpath in this location will also be closed for public safety and a diversion will be in place.

What we are doing
We are currently demolishing Saltley Viaduct in sections. During this time, a section of Saltley Viaduct will be demolished over the canal.

What to expect
This work will require a canal closure and also a canal towpath diversion. Information on the diversion is available on the overleaf. Due to the nature of the demolition, construction noise can be expected.

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
