What we are doing

M42 northbound carriageway between junction 7a and junction 8.

Duration
We will close the hard shoulder on the northbound carriageway from Monday 21 September at 5:00am to Tuesday 30 March 2027 at 05:00am.
What we are doing
Installing the permanent Vehicle restraint system (VRS), drainage and reinstating the hard shoulder so that traffic management can be removed.
What to expect
• Low level of noise from our works
• The main northbound carriageway will be open to four lanes throughout
HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
